The Kailua Village Artists featured artist for June is plein air painter Richard Rochkovsky. Rochkovsky graduated with a bachelor of architecture and enough credits for a minor in art from the University of Virginia in 1972 and subsequently became a licensed architect in the Commonwealth of Virginia, and the states of Washington and Hawaii.

Rochkovsky graduated with a bachelor of architecture and enough credits for a minor in art from the University of Virginia in 1972 and subsequently became a licensed architect in the Commonwealth of Virginia, and the states of Washington and Hawaii.

Rochkovsky participated in a long running show at Puuopelo in Waimea and has been coordinator of the West Hawaii Plein Air Painters about six years. He is the instructor for plein air group Painting Out There, with demonstrations in watercolor, oil and mixed media. He is also the publisher and manager of theislandartist.blogspot.com, posting the month’s schedule, assorted works and technical tips.

Rochkovsky will talk story and paint at the Kailua Village Artists Gallery in the Kona Marketplace, 75-5729 Alii Drive, next to Uncle Billy’s Kona Bay Hotel, June 16 and 30. The gallery is open from 9:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. daily. For more information, call 329-6653.
